Celebrating 50 Years

March 27, 2012 (RENO, Nev.) - - The Club Cal Neva in downtown Reno celebrates 50 years of business, Saturday, March 31 and Sunday, April 1, 2012 with food specials, drink specials, and $20,000 in total cash prize drawings.

The Club Cal Neva opened for business under its current name on April 2, 1962. At the time, it was one of the jewels of downtown Reno. Since 1962, casinos have come and gone, the landscape of Reno has changed, and economies have seen their ups and downs. Through it all, the Club Cal Neva is one of two casinos who have seen Reno survive the toughest times, enjoy the best of times, grow up, and grow out.

To commemorate this 50 years of service, continuity and contribution to the Reno and gaming community, the Club Cal Neva will host a weekend long celebration by rewarding its guests with $5.00 prime rib dinner specials, 50-cent Bud and Bud Light, and a cash drawing promotion worth $20,000.

The festivities start on Saturday, March 31, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. on the cabaret stage inside the Club Cal Neva’s Center street casino. Approximately 30 guests will win up to $500 in the club’s special 50^th Birthday Celebration drawing. The drawings will close at approximately 7:00 p.m. where one guest will win a guaranteed $5,000 in cash. The fun will pick up again on Sunday, April 1, 2012 at noon as the Club Cal Neva will again give away up $250 in cash to 20 lucky guests and another guaranteed $5,000 at 4:00 p.m.

Beer and food specials will start at 12:01 a.m. on Saturday and run through 11:30 p.m. on Sunday.

“We wanted to treat this weekend as a celebration of our guests,” said Jeff Siri, chief executive officer of the Club Cal Neva. “There are a lot of people who have been coming to the Cal Neva since it opened in 1962. And there a lot of people who just started coming to the Club Cal Neva recently. We wanted to find a way to thank all of them for their continued support and show them our deep appreciation for them. What better way than to give them cold hard cash.”

After several up and down years operating under previous ownership, the Club Cal Neva closed its doors in 1961. In 1962, it re-opened under the ownership of the Sierra Development Corporation and has remained under the control of the company every since.

All Pro Pick'em entries must be submitted before 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 24, 2011. There is a full slate of action on Saturday as most teams have been given the holiday off. There is still one game on Christmas Day and another game on Monday night that ARE part of the Pro Pick'em Card.

Club Cal Neva introduces Grindhouse Theater Thursdays

The Club Cal Neva introduces Grindhouse Theater Thursdays. Every Thursday night, the Club Cal Neva will show cult classics from the 70s, 80s, 90s and beyond. While "Grindhouse Theater," the club admits, is not the name it will stay, it is the most appropriate name for the first four movies that will be shown over the next month.

The first movie on the Neva's agenda will be Pulp Fiction, the Quentin Tarentino classic. In fact, the first four movies shown in the Event Room at the Club Cal Neva will be Tarentino classics including Reservoir Dogs, Kill Bill Vol. 1 and Kill Bill Vol. 2.

LA TOMATINA en RENO!

It's back. Mark your calendar for Saturday, August 27, 2011 as La Tomatina en Reno returns. The tomato throwing gets started at approximately 5:00 p.m. on City Plaza (10 North Virginia Street) right next to City Hall. In the past two years, thousands participants turned out to throw tomatoes in some of the coldest weather August has ever seen. We're positive it won't be that way this time! So come on down to downtown Reno on August 27th and participate in, or witness, one of the greatest events in the United States.

Entry fee is only $10 and a portion of this year's profit will go to benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).
